Dedicated to known doctors on 1st July
Dedicated to Doctors
who shaped my physical and mental well-being
Some people ask "have you seen God?". I used to tell "I have not seen, but experienced God's presence and blessings through 'messengers of God' appearing in the form of human beings”. Doctors throughout the world definitely belong to that category.
Today, 1st July, is celebrated and cherished as 'Doctor's Day'. I dedicate this blog to those Doctors, who shaped my physical health and mental well-being, through their personal care and treatment. For some of them, I added a few lines of my impressions, as my acquaintance with them is a bit longer.
1. Dr. V. Vasudevan DHMS, Dr. ANANTH’S HOMOEO CLINIC Chennai: Right from 1990, I am associated with him for all my health needs and consultancy. When I got back pain in 1990, I was advised by the doctors in a hospital to do an abdomen check as they did not rule out kidney related issues. My mother asked me to have a consultation with Dr. Vasudevan before proceeding. Dr. Vasudevan opined that it appears to be a normal back pain, but advised me to complete the abdomen check, as it might lie in the back of my mind. Abdomen check did not reveal anything, as expected, and I was cured by the medicines given by the doctor. He is the doctor for my mother, wife, brothers' families, my in-laws and now to my younger sister. I can seek his medical counselling over phone after sending the medical reports. So much services we have received from him that I used to feel, I should born again to serve him in some form or the other.
2. Dr. S. Muthusamy, Tirupur: Apart from the medical services I got, I also spent many happy moments with him in discussing about Tamil literature and on the needs of the society. I enjoy the privilege to call him over phone, from wherever I am situated. Once, when I had a stomach issue in Bengaluru on a sunday morning, I called him over phone and the medicines, purchased on his advice, cured me completely. Many such instances can be quoted. His autobiography is a masterpiece. Though he has crossed 75 years of age, he still attends to his clinic three days a week, as there are hundreds of senior citizens, who need his medical consultation constantly.
3. Dr. M.G.Kaushik, Consultant Neurologist. Coimbatore: When I completed 65 years of age, I was found unconscious by my wife (for a few minutes in the bed). My association with Dr. Kaushik in Kumaran Medical Center started from that day. Three years passed by. No such instance again. Attending to you personally even when patients are in the queue, smiling, cordial, positive and ‘never make the patient tense even during stress moments’ are the hall marks of Dr.Kaushik. Fortunate to have his medical consultations
4. Dr. Mahendra, Hyderabad: My acquaintance with the doctor started when I reported to State Bank of Hyderabad in 2014. He was the bank's doctor and continues in that capacity even after merger of SBH with SBI. During my entire stay with SBH, every Thursday, he paid a visit to my cabin, checked my blood pressure, pulse and sugar levels. And he gave me the freedom to visit his clinic for medical consultations. My wife had certain medical issues for a few years prior to our stay in Hyderabad. Thanks to Dr. Mahendra, the issues were solved and did not occur even after leaving Hyderabad. He has given me the privilege to call him and send my reports for free medical consultations.
5. Dr. Satishchandra Hegde, Bengaluru: When I served State Bank of Mysore, Bengaluru, I requested Mr. Gururaj Acharya, a renowned Chartered Accountant (and our Bank's Director at that time) for suggesting a family physician. He immediately referred me to Dr. Hegde. Me and my wife were under his care throughout our stay in Bengaluru. Soft spoken, always caring are the hall marks. Even now I am in touch with him over phone.
6. Dr. P.N. Patel, Hardik Nursing Home, Chennai: He was the doctor to my elder brother's company. All in the family were taken care of by him since 1970s. His diagnosis is always found to be perfect. I always remember him with gratitude for the best care given to my father in his post-retirement days. The doctor, past 90s, still finds time to attend his clinic in addressing the health issues of senior citizens, for two days in a week.
7. Fr. Muller's Homoeopathy Hospital Mangalore: They were my consultants before I met Dr. Vasudevan in 1990s. Helped me in understanding my stomach issues and the medicines really helped
8. Dr. Nateasa Iyer (Ayurvda) Chennai: In 1960s and 1970s, our family depended on Dr. Natesa Iyer for our health issues. He was in his mid 80s, when he passed away. Totally religious, dedicated his entire life to take care of the health needs of the poor.
9. Dr.Leong, Lady Doctor in Singapore: She fixed my stomach issues permanently. Even now, when acidity related issues occur, I remember her advice and act accordingly.
10. Dr. Visakan. K, Cardiologist, DSK Hospitale, Tirupur: He is the family doctor for my wife's family. The way he took care of my mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law will always be cherished. Part of our family.
11. Dr. Aruljothi, Consutatnt Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon Tirupur: Takes care of my spine related issues. Humble, simple and ever-smiling. Recently, we had the fortune to associate ourselves with his OMS Hospital to donate an ambulance in memory of my sister-in-law. Helping the poor always.
12. Dr. Malathi, Tirupur: She and her husband Er.Ilango are our family friends. Though she is a Gynaecologist, she on her own did an abdomen scan on me in her hospital. She refused to take the scan charges. With a lot of difficulty, I had to convince her that reimbursement from my bank is available for such services and finally paid a nominal amount. Motherly care is given to every patient in her hospital.
13. Dr. R. Gurusamy, RG Clinic Coimbatore: He is our family doctor in Coimbatore now. His clinic is always crowded. But he finds time to listen, check essential parameters and prescribe medicines, which usually do not go beyond 3/5 days. His hospital is coming up near his clinic. May God bless his ‘messenger’ to serve the humanity, including the poor, much more from the new hospital.
14. Dr. Karthiga Prasath, Kongu Dental Hospital: She and her husband Mr. Prasath are the most interesting couple, I ever met. Dedicated, explaining the issues in a lay person’s language and treating everyone with the required ‘dental care’ are her specialities. She is our family friend now.
15. Dr.Anusha Venkataraman, Vasan Eye Clinic, Coimbatore: She is the daughter of my colleague and friend Shri S. Venkataraman. A gold medalist from AIMS. Confident inspiring pleasant face with a smile, soothening words, dedicating her duty to perfection easily makes her the most sought out ophthalmologist. Me, my wife and my in-laws handed over our ‘eye-care’ in the safe custody of Dr. Anusha.
16. Padma Shri Dr. R.V.Ramani, Founder & Managing Trustee, Sankara Eye Foundation, Coimbatore: Thanks to Smt.Jayanti Murthy residing in our complex Sreevatsa Global Village, Coimbatore I had the privilege to meet Dr.R.V.Ramani in his chambers. He and his wife also a renowned doctor, dedicated their entire life, as per the wishes of Kanchi Paramacharya and Pudhu Periyava, for growing the eye foundation on the principle of 80:20 (serving 80 percent of the patients free of charge by collecting nominal fees from those 20, who are afford to pay). Something can be emulated, but some can only be admired with supporting hands. At this age, I decided to acquire the latter part.
I also remember with gratitude
Dr. Chari, Krishna Nursing Home, Chennai Dr. Rengabashyam, Ramana Clinic, Chennai, Dr. Gunasekaran, Chennai, Dr. Sarada, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Deepak, Bengaluru, late Dr. Ramdas (Neuro), Coimbatore, Dr. Bhubaneswaran, Cardiologist & Director, PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore, Dr.Rejith, PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore, Dr. Leelavathi, Bengaluru, Dr. Shanti Nataraj Coimbatore and Dr. Hari Prasad, Kumaran Medical Center, Kurumbapalayam, Coimbatore
Opthalmologists Dr. Gopalasamy, Chennai, Dr.Ajitha, Sankara Eye Hospital
Dentists Dr. Ashok, Chennai Dr.Ambalavanan, Dr. Ranjana, Coimbatore
for their personal care in attending to my health issues.
There are a few more, but with the age catching up, I remember their faces and hands, which served, but not their names. My gratitude to them also.
Doctors serve us 24/7, 365 days a year. And we get a chance to say that we are grateful to you on 1st July. Let us do that proudly.
Happy Doctors’ Day.
